Mirror Image, National Poetry Month Post #5

Blessings everyone, I hope and pray that everyone is well. April is National Poetry Month and today is the last day. I’ve been sharing poems every week and this is one of my newest pieces titled, “Mirror Image.” The form of poetry is called a “cleave” poem. I learned about this form of poetry in my Writing to Wellness class through Creative Suitland that I am in and we were challenged to write about something that needs attention and to be healed.

You will hear in the video below that I discovered while sitting still for the most part in this pandemic that I am a reflection of my mother. Myself and my mother have a lot of things in common (God rest her soul) which are great, but in this particular instance, I’m talking about a challenge that held us back and could have blocked blessings for my future if I did not pause to recognize it.

I hope that this poem can indeed help someone on their healing journey. The one thing I have learned within this pandemic is that it’s okay to be still even with feelings that you might not be comfortable with and to address those feelings and wounds so the baggage can be tackled and put away properly.

“Conceptualize” National Poetry Month Post #4

Peace, love and light everyone. Enjoy and really take a good listen to the poem titled, “Conceptualize” from my poetry book, “The Awakening, Pieces of Life Volume 2.” I wrote this poem originally in 2010 when myself and a friend were visualizing what we want the world to look like in the future not only for ourselves, but for all of the children and generations to come. We are still waiting for the day.

Praying for unity and peace. Praying for a day of no police brutality, no racism, no poverty and equity. If you like or love what you hear, please like and share. Also subscribe to my YouTube channel.

I invite you to check out my website after listening to this piece, where you can discover inspiration through my poetry books, blog, workshop offerings, videos and events.

May peace be with each of you.

Wrappers Delight Poem! National Poetry Month 2021 Post #3

Peace, love and light. This poem is titled, “Wrappers Delight.” We were challenged in my Writing to Wellness class to write a “Pantoum” poem which is a form of poetry that has a repeated pattern in every paragraph and you will hear it as I read my poem. We also had to use gum as the metaphor for what we were going to express. The first recording of this video was during National Poetry Month but I redid it a couple of months later. Had to get it right!

During this season that we have been in with the pandemic, we have all been forced to sit still. I’ve decided to use time to reflect on life, and 2021 mark’s a decade that I’ve been a single mother.

This journey is not an easy one and I applaud those who may not be together, BUT they have found peace with one another and have come to a middle ground to be responsible co-parents with a friendship and focus on the child’s wellbeing so it just doesn’t fall on one parent.

If you like or love what you hear, I invite you to check out the rest of my website and feel free to go to the store and buy some great poetry books here.

National Poetry Month 2021 Post #2!

Photo Credit: Karyme Franca at Pexels.com

Just as promised, here is post #2 for National poetry month 2021! This is titled, “Living Dreams” also from my poetry book titled, “The Awakening, Pieces of Life, Volume 2.”

During this past 14 months of being in the pandemic we’ve had a lot of time to think and be still mostly but still busy for most. I know I have been very busy with helping my son in virtual school, getting my health and wellness coaching practice (Divine Wryte Wellness) off the ground and I have been doing some writing. This is definitely been a time where I have seen people not only think about their dreams, but to put an action plan behind them and make them come true.

Enjoy this poem! Be inspired, encouraged and as I tell people when they ask me what are some things that you did in regards to birthing your dreams. I tell them that I took one step and just kept putting one foot in front of the other no matter how long it took. I also surrounded myself with positive people that support and believe in me and I am cautious as to who I talk to about my dreams. Not everyone wants to see you cross that finish line in regards to making your dreams come true. Be well and blessed ✌🏾

National Poetry Month 2021! Post #1.

Art by Samax Amen

It’s National Poetry Month and my goal is to post a poem a week, I owe y’all two poems since I didn’t post one last week. Stay tuned for one more this week/weekend.

The first one I am posting I recorded last year around the same exact time titled, “Wake Up Call!” I feel that this poem is very timely with everything that has come about with Breonna Taylor, officers still not being arrested, the city of Louisville giving the family a settlement which can never replace her life that was tragically taken and no justice has been served.

If you like what you hear please feel free to share with others, if you would like to purchase a copy of my book titled, “The Awakening, Pieces of Life Volume 2” which this poem is published in or my other 2 poetry books, please feel free to check out the store here.

Take good care, may peace be with you and please remember to not be silent. ✊🏾
