Marathon to Inner Peace, a Poem

                            Finishing the 2007 Nike’s Women’s Marathon

Many blessings to all! It’s been a while since I shared a poem. Enjoy, “Marathon to Inner Peace.” You will hear that we were challenged in my Writing to Wellness class hosted by Creative Suitland and facilitated by Spoken Word artist and Poet Extraordinare C. Thomas to write about the journey to inner peace…do you give up because it’s taking too long or keep going?

Healing is painful and is not a Sprint, just how I completed the marathon in the picture above…it’s one step at a time and you find your pace. However, the other side is a great reward and much deserved! You deserve to heal!

Thank you for stopping by and if you love what you hear, consider supporting this season by purchasing one or all of my poetry books you can head over to the store.

I’m having a special where each set of all 3 poetry books while supplies last, will get a free magnetic bookmark that has encouraging words on it. Each set is $40 plus shipping and you can check out my website for more details in the store.

Peace and love!

Mirror Image, National Poetry Month Post #5

Photo Credit by Cottonbro on Pexels.com

Blessings everyone, I hope and pray that everyone is well. April is National Poetry Month and today is the last day. I’ve been sharing poems every week and this is one of my newest pieces titled, “Mirror Image.” The form of poetry is called a “cleave” poem. I learned about this form of poetry in my Writing to Wellness class through Creative Suitland that I am in and we were challenged to write about something that needs attention and to be healed.

You will hear in the video below that I discovered while sitting still for the most part in this pandemic that I am a reflection of my mother. Myself and my mother have a lot of things in common (God rest her soul) which are great, but in this particular instance, I’m talking about a challenge that held us back and could have blocked blessings for my future if I did not pause to recognize it.

I hope that this poem can indeed help someone on their healing journey. The one thing I have learned within this pandemic is that it’s okay to be still even with feelings that you might not be comfortable with and to address those feelings and wounds so the baggage can be tackled and put away properly.

Wrappers Delight Poem! National Poetry Month 2021 Post #3

Peace, love and light. This poem is titled, “Wrappers Delight.” We were challenged in my Writing to Wellness class to write a “Pantoum” poem which is a form of poetry that has a repeated pattern in every paragraph and you will hear it as I read my poem. We also had to use gum as the metaphor for what we were going to express. The first recording of this video was during National Poetry Month but I redid it a couple of months later. Had to get it right!

During this season that we have been in with the pandemic, we have all been forced to sit still. I’ve decided to use time to reflect on life, and 2021 mark’s a decade that I’ve been a single mother.

This journey is not an easy one and I applaud those who may not be together, BUT they have found peace with one another and have come to a middle ground to be responsible co-parents with a friendship and focus on the child’s wellbeing so it just doesn’t fall on one parent.

If you like or love what you hear, I invite you to check out the rest of my website and feel free to go to the store and buy some great poetry books here.

Reconstruction, Pieces of Life Volume 1 Poetry Set

Living Life 155%

I decided to post one of my poems from my book Crying Tears of Teal. I wrote this piece after meeting a dynamic group of Ovarian Cancer survivors from the Life with Cancer Center in Virginia.

Dedicated to all those who are healing from an illness and cancer survivors! You can do it!

Living Life 155%

I run

Walk

Sky Dive

Parasail

Bike Ride

Mountain Climb

Advocate for my friends with cancer that are trying to stay alive

I’m a…

Mother, Lover

Wife, Sister

Writer, Leader

And you ask me how do I do all of this in my life????

No longer think too much as I take chances and risks

For those that live life too cautiously I wave my finger and say, “tisk, tisk, tisk.”

I live life 155%

100% isn’t good enough for me

Once I became free I promised to live life naturally

Living every moment as if it’s my last

Traveling from place to place, city to city and yet you still ask

“How does one find the energy?”

It’s very simple…you see…

Just 2 years ago I was given 6 months to live

I thought I gave everything I could give

But it wasn’t enough…the doctors were about to give up

I vowed if I made it

To live my life wholly

Making my dream checklist I gave myself a “D” day

My “D” stood for destiny!!!

“D” stood for discharge and determination!

So once I was “discharged” from the hospital after it was said I would die I checked that off

Then I was “determined” to restart my life over and it was a must

Got rid of all those non-believers, doubters and pure haters

Those that stood the test of time in my darkest moments were my circle for life

Fighting to get my life back I went after my “destiny”

Every day I check off something from my long check list

And every day I add more to it

I’m living life like my girl Jill Scott as its Golden

Living Life 155%

If for some reason you dare resent how I live

Then you can see yourself to the door

And if anything your stupid doubts gave me more

Fuel to my fire

Added desire as I live out my life

Until God calls me home
